Puerto Galera or simply “Puerto” is a frugal and under-rated destination for island hopping, coral exploration, and chilling on the white-sand beach (yes, it is white-sand beach!). Only a 140-kilometer away from Manila, it’s a nearby getaway from the hustle and bustle of the metropolitan. Together with two other Indians, Divij Johri and Aditya Verma, who are both from MBA program, I stayed in Puerto for 3 days and 2 nights. The white-sand beach is best for chilling whereas island hopping is a must if one visits Puerto. Although we were not able to explore the underwater caves due to harsh water current, I heard from a lot of people (and from a friend) that it’s a must-try if ever one will visit the place. In a nutshell, if you are both a beach and a mountain person, have limited funds, and plan to maximize your experience in the Philippines, I believe Puerto Galera must be in your bucket list.
